Alfred
Wainright's Coast to Coast Walk
We get extremely busy in the
summer months, as the village of Danby Wiske is on the route of the popular
Coast to Coast walk, with the pub being directly on route. In fact if you
walk in the front door and out of the back, won't miss any of the walk!
The village is visited by thousands of tourists, all nationalities and
backgrounds, many of whom stay overnight in the village and gather at the pub
for good beer, good company and an evening meal.
Village
History
The White Swan is over 400 years
old, but this quintessentially English Rural Village dates back pre 1100, and is
proud of its rich and traditional old english heritage.
The thousands of tourists that
pass through the village every year seem to agree, many describing Danby Wiske
as a "Hidden Gem"! And certainly with all these international tourists
visiting the pub, dining at this little village pub becomes quite an experience
with Americans, Canadians, Australians and the local born and bred Yorkshire
folk all enjoying friendly conversation together!
