The Coast to Coast Walk was devised by Alfred Wainwright, the well-known writer and hill-walker. The Coast to Coast Walk crosses three National Parks, taking in some of England's most stunning views. The walk starts at St Bees beside the Irish Sea, and continues through the mountains of the Lake District, across the Pennines and down Swaledale. From there the North York Moors awaits and beyond them the east coast, and finally the end of the journey, Robin Hoods Bay.
If you are staying in a B&B in the village, please make sure that your hosts have booked you in to the Pub for an evening meal, we do get extremely busy in the summer season and would not wish to disappoint.
If you arrive in the village early, you may find that the pub closed at lunchtime. With Danby Wiske becoming more popular as an overnight stop, the lunchtime trade from the Coast to Coast has dwindled. The good news for the pub is that it is busier than ever with B&Bs, evening meals and of course providing a community pub for the local population. And the good news for walkers is that Ashfield House Tea Room is only a hundred yards from the pub, is open from 11am - 6pm and provides refreshments, soup, sandwiches and other homemade goodies. Don't miss it!
